I hated Man of Steel, and disliked most of this movie. The 3rd act is when I finally came around. I enjoyed the strategy Batman used to take down Sup, and enjoyed it more once they were working together against Doomsday. I just don't feel that Snyder's style works for these characters. Loved 300 and Watchmen (though I know some comic die-hards were disappointed by the revised ending), but I just don't think Snyder's skills work here. There should be more FUN in a Superman or Batman movie. Everything is too dark and serious. They were trying to recreate the success of Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, but it was artificial. The beginning was too slow. Do we really need to see Bruce Wayne's parents death again? We get it. Anyway, I wish they would replace Snyder before Justice League but sadly that doesn't look so. I have hope for Wonder-Woman as it's being helmed by somebody else. Even the head of the DC studio said the future movies will have more optimism, because most viewers are getting turned off by Snyder taking these characters way too seriously. It doesn't need to be Marvel, but it should be fun. I'm glad YOU like it!Handlinkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07809082996775795867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825229250308964843.post-70888513001912098972016-05-25T19:11:19.187-07:002016-05-25T19:11:19.187-07:00Good film, lots of story and character evolution, ...Good film, lots of story and character evolution, relationships, etc.
The opening fight seemed to be sped up, as if frames were missing. Too fast for me, couldn't tell what was going on and the movements didn't look realistic. Thought the entire film was going to look this way but fortunately it did not. Spidey intro and talkative personality was great. AT-AT reference was perfect, and I predicted it a few minutes before it happened.
Ant-Man worked better in this group dynamic than he did in his stand-alone, IMO, kinda like The Hulk.
Iron-Man 1 and Avengers 1 are still the tops for me.Handlinkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07809082996775795867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825229250308964843.post-85174080306806029142016-05-25T19:04:18.852-07:002016-05-25T19:04:18.852-07:00Nice review. I loved your review and loved the film and although I agree that it had flaws, the flaws were not about the film as a whole they were more just quibbling points like the ones you mentioned, and as such I wanted to give a counter-pint to one of them.

The Kylo-Finn fight has received a lot of criticism and I wanted to give my take on what I saw. The darkside draws some interesting and complicated characters to its side and Kylo Ren is no different. Let's not forget that he had been seriously injured by Chewie's bowcaster and thus in a weakened state, but it was his arrogance and recklessness that gave Finn any sense of hope of being able to defend against this dark master of the arts. More than likely, this was the first time Kylo has ever had an opportunity to test his saber skills against any opponent.

If you think about it, Finn did not do a very good job using his lightsaber against the Stormtrooper with the vibro-baton of whatever it was, Kylo was just toying with Finn so that he could savor the moment as long as possible. In fact it wasn't until Finn got off a lucky graze that Kylo stopped messing around with him and instantly took him out of the fight. He did not have a real opponent until Rey awakens (pun intended).

Just my take.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00374301510539794884noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825229250308964843.post-77435116351078214042014-08-25T00:55:43.102-07:002014-08-25T00:55:43.102-07:00Glad someone told the truth. I liked how they had the same kind of characters on both sides, the human that hated the apes and the ape that hated the human and both were to blame for what happened. I'm glad that Caesar could see how to keep it peaceful and that maybe they could live in harmony, but apart. Too late for that now, but I'm glad he tried. I absolutely LOVED the scenes of Koba riding on horseback in the battle! Amazing! Can't wait for the next one!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825229250308964843.post-16916659996000032762014-07-21T14:43:34.650-07:002014-07-21T14:43:34.650-07:00I am looking forward to seeing this one when it co...I am looking forward to seeing this one when it comes out on DVD. I typically have a hit list of movies that I "must see" in the theater and although this one did not make the list it did catch my eye.

So the first movie takes a rather absurd notion and creates a unique world to develop stories in. For the purge that concept is a world where there is no crime, except for the one day a year that it is legal. Absurd, but in faction you sometimes have to suspend belief long enough to see how it plays out, and the first movie it plays out very well.

I was pleased to read your review and see that they are taking the Purge in a new direction. Not only is it a stand alone movie, but it growing the shared history of the original movie and opening up avenues for other story arcs to spring forth from it.

We don't need to see the same characters movie to movie as we have already seen experienced their struggle, although it would be cool to perhaps have cameos down the line (maybe we will see Lena Headey helping out someone in need in a future movie - heck maybe that happened in this film?).

Looking forward to watching it and maybe posting some updated comments on my thoughts at that time.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00374301510539794884noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825229250308964843.post-52353642868388398732014-07-19T01:33:39.932-07:002014-07-19T01:33:39.932-07:00I just got through watching this movie today and a...I just got through watching this movie today and as a result was very excited to see this review. I was very impressed with this movie both in story and with the visuals. Let's chat about the visuals first, as you pointed out this is some of the best CGI to date, there were so many times where I got so wrapped up in the story that I forgot that they were not real apes scene to scene. The CGI on the bear however was sub par, and actually did take me out of the action a bit, it paled in comparison, but the good news is that since it was in the beginning of the movie it was quickly forgotten as the focus was on the apes. But what really brings this movie together is the story and character development. It was an interesting question I posed to myself walking into the theater... who am I supposed to be routing for? After all, I am human. But this is the apes story, and more importantly this is Caesar's story. So we have to remember that we are watching his struggles and his growth, and by the end of this movie - he has done a lot of growing and is a very different character then where he started. The movie ends in a way that if they wanted to, they could pick up exactly where we left off. I rather liked how they distanced the time between the first two movies, so I will be eagerly awaiting the trailer for the third film to see what they have decided and called it. I am hopeful they will stick with another original title. Can't wait!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00374301510539794884noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825229250308964843.post-31594435937964569752014-05-06T20:49:19.201-07:002014-05-06T20:49:19.201-07:00Nice review Manuel. There appears to be a special suspense in place that works brilliantly for this movie. I agree with you Manny, folks out there calling themselves horror fans who haven’t seen this movie, need to have their title revoked immediately. Obviously, I’ve seen the original, but have yet to see it on Blu- ray, but I have the perfect opportunity coming up; I’ve decided to have a horror bash for Halloween and I’m inviting some coworkers of mine from DISH who also love the genre. It’s awesome that it’s out in time for the party, and I’d rather own a copy of Jeepers Creepers, but if I bought every movie I wanted, I’d be broke. I’m going to rent it from my Blockbuster @Home service, which is more practical and saves me a lot money, especially with the other Horror films I’ll be renting for the party. I know this film is enough fun that it will be a hit at the party, especially since; all my guests think as I do.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16482950532268328191noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825229250308964843.post-89135610417614428972012-09-28T08:13:55.999-07:002012-09-28T08:13:55.999-07:00Thanks, Sam...I appreciate the comment! Thanks, Sam...I appreciate the comment!Mannyhttp://cinema-bits.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825229250308964843.post-60355360407564422342012-09-26T19:21:35.522-07:002012-09-26T19:21:35.522-07:00I have to agree with you that this is the best sup...I have to agree with you that this is the best super hero movie of all time, and that is no light praise. Marvel did such a great job setting up this movie, and I think that is why it ended up being so good. I was talking to a coworker at DISH, and he didn’t even know that every one of the characters had a stand alone movie. I am pretty sure that most people only remembered the Iron Man movies, but I still think that it was genius to release all of the individual ones first. I saw this movie in theaters, and I loved it so much that I put it on my Blockbuster @Home queue the second I got home. It came in the mail today and I got to check it out on my 3D HDTV. I love being able to rent 3D movies so that I can test them out on my system, because it is getting to be old and not every movie works on it. I am glad to say that this one did, and it was just as amazing as it was in theaters!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12315690962799109019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825229250308964843.post-28985521067645529532012-07-20T14:35:02.059-07:002012-07-20T14:35:02.059-07:00So...just do I'm clear here...you think i shou...So...just do I'm clear here...you think i should skip this movie?Jerrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4825229250308964843.post-17497618462574895052012-01-29T00:45:03.525-08:002012-01-29T00:45:03.525-08:00Correction: I mistakenly cited Charlton Heston as ...Correction: I mistakenly cited Charlton Heston as the star of AIRPORT, when, in fact, it's Burt Lancaster.
